I was asked recently from a friend which Photography websites (and blogs) I found helpful, being the pretty-new-to-photography amateur. It’s difficult to separate some photography sites from design sites, so you may see a mix here. Anyway, enough with the preamble… Here are the home sites — you’ll find the link to their RSS feeds there: » Read more: My Favorites: Photo Blogs

May 14th, 2009Microsoft’s vision of the future
March 2nd, 2009Want to see how Microsoft envisions the future? Check out this video. A lot of attention to the visual aspect, to be sure, and a lot of isometric displays, glass-panels, and data transfers between different hardware elements. Is this a realistic vision? Periodic Table of Visualization Methods
January 17th, 2009Ralph Lengler and Martin Eppler show a variety of many different visualization methods, arranged as a periodic table. Six categories differentiate the various entries by visualization type: Data, Information, Concept, Strategy, Metaphor, and Compound: http://www.visual-literacy.org/periodic_table/periodic_table.html (version 1.5; no date).
Make sure you mouse over the “elements” to see samples and learn more! Great idea!
Choosing a good chart…
January 17th, 2009Found a great decision graph on how to pick the right chart type for your next presentation(s): http://extremepresentation.typepad.com/blog/2006/09/choosing_a_good.html
Writen by Andrew Abela, it displays visually how to choose (what he thinks is) the best type of graph for a particular need. Clear, concise, and useful, it’s a good way to get started. The comments have some other ideas and pages with similar info.
Upcoming topics…
November 17th, 2008Over the next few weeks, I’ll be posting a few new articles, which are currently percolating…
- How Teaching public schools and managing in a corporation are so similar;
- Why TrueCrypt and KeePass are two awesome tools;
- How good furniture design (like Thomas Moser) and good data visualization (c.f. JunkCharts and Tufte) are similar (and different)
Suggestions? Ideas? Let me know!
